DIANNE NICOLINI OF KDFC-FM SAN FRANCISCO MESSES UP PRONUNCIATION OF WAGNER'S "G֝TTERDÄMMERUNG"

KBYU-FM carried the San Francisco Opera's recorded performance of Götterdämmerung today on its Saturday Opera program.

I am often critical of sloppy and lazy pronunciations by some of KBYU's classical music announcers.  However in this post, I comment on Dianne Nicolini of  KDFC-FM in San Francisco who announces the SFO's broadcasts carried on a syndicated nationwide basis.

Specifically, in today's broadcast, Dianne Nicolini transformed Götterdämmerung into something akin to "Gud-der-dammerung."

Here's a person whom listeners reasonably expect should reflect the lofty artistic standards of both KDFC, a classical station in San Francisco, and especially of the San Francisco Opera.  I don't think anyone expects a classical announcer to be fluent in spoken German or other foreign language, but I do believe that sophisticated listeners want announcers to do their homework before broadcasts.  A little time is all that is needed to see that "Götterdämmerung" has two "t"s and one "d," and not three "d"s and no "t."

If Dianne Nicolini messes up the name of the opera she is presenting on a nationwide broadcast by sloppily substituting "d"s for "t"s, I cannot imagine how she navigates words like "entertainment," "internet," "international," "Rigoletto," "partita," "twenty," and so forth.
