NO REASON TO HAVE FUND DRIVES ON LOCAL PUBLIC TV STATIONS - KUED-TV & KBYU-TV - NO HOURLY INTERNATIONAL NEWS, LITTLE INVESTMENT IN NEW PROGRAMMING

Why must public TV stations broadcasting in Utah conduct another dreadful and embarrassing fund drive at this time of year?

It appears that both KUED-TV, owned and operated by the University of Utah, and KBYU-TV, owned and operated by Brigham Young University, are now engaging in perpetual fund appeals. Consider that their drives typically last more than two whole weeks. Besides Spring and Fall drives, both stations now fit in additional fund drives in the Summer and Winter.

I argue, stop this madness. There has to be a better way.

Consider what neither of the above two stations provides viewers:
1. no national or international news during day-time hours. Viewers apparently should consider themselves lucky in getting The News Hour on weekday evenings!

2. no station commitment to investment in new programs. KBYU is content to recycle Rosemary and Thyme, and KUED endlessly recycles Antiques Roadshow.

Why can't "public" stations like KUED and KBYU upgrade their news programming? And why can't they spend monies for new offerings?

I argue, get rid of all local stations like KUED and KBYU, and, in their stead, let's have a national station that, like Al Jazeera or France 24, can offer quality national and international news all throughout the day and night, including weekends.
