MOSTLY SUBSTANDARD NEWS ON PUBLIC RADIO STATIONS IN UTAH

Why can't our public radio stations in Utah give us the same quality news broadcasts during the day as we can obtain from Mhz Worldview on KUEN-TV, Utah's Educational Network?

All we get from KCPW-FM during the day is the non-news community calendar or else the local "hosts" regurgitating news from one of the two daily newspapers.

KBYU-FM fares hardly better. KBYU's announcers (mostly BYU students) take stories from the AP wire that have been printed in the Salt Lake Tribune or Deseret News and announce them as their own. Especially favored are murders, store robberies, abductions, you get the idea. However, KBYU does broadcast BBC Radio News some seven or eight times daily on weekdays, for which it deserves high praise.

Does any public station in Utah have "reporters" who actually write their own news stories? I don't mean features or interviews. I mean hard news, serious news, quality news. I don't think so.

The best news available today over-the-air is BBC Radio News and the various TV news broadcasts found only on KUEN's Mhz Worldview. News on local public radio stations for the most part is not worth listening to.
